NEWPORT BEACH, United States – October 30, 2026

Renovexus, a kitchen and bath directory, has matched 375 of the businesses it lists to an active license or registration in official state and city records, according to checks it ran from Oct. 17 to Oct. 25, 2026. Each match is shown on the business’s profile with the license number, the date of the check and a link to the official lookup.

Virginia accounted for 280 of the matches, from Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation (DPOR) records. Maryland had 44 from Maryland Home Improvement Commission licenses, Philadelphia 34 from City contractor licenses and New Jersey 17 from state home improvement contractor registrations.
Those four markets hold 2,166 of the 2,883 businesses listed. Matching runs on each business’s name and town, so a business without a match may still hold a license under another name, or one that Renovexus does not check. Georgia and Washington, D.C., have no automatic check yet; for all six markets, Renovexus publishes step-by-step license guides, such as Virginia’s, linking the official lookup and the complaint office.

“A match is a starting point, not a guarantee,” said Sezgin Arslan, marketing director at Renovexus. “Licenses lapse, so every match shows the date we checked it and a link to the official lookup. Many businesses also register under a different legal name, so where we found no match for a remodeler, the profile says so and asks the homeowner to check the number before signing.”
Virginia and Maryland run funds, paid for by licensed contractors, that compensate consumers for some losses on jobs done by licensed contractors; neither covers unlicensed work. Virginia’s Contractor Transaction Recovery Fund made 136 claim payments totaling $1.7 million in fiscal 2023 and 2024, according to DPOR’s biennial report. Maryland’s Home Improvement Guaranty Fund paid nearly $2.4 million in claims in fiscal 2025, according to the commission’s Aug. 7, 2025, minutes.
Virginia requires a valid contractor’s license for work valued at $1,000 or more, according to a March 2023 DPOR release. Kerri O’Brien, then a DPOR spokesperson, said in that release: “Your home is likely your most valuable financial asset. Before you build or remodel, make sure you hire a reputable contractor that is properly licensed with DPOR.”
Town pages order businesses by a public score, explained on the verification page, in which a matched, active license is worth 30 of 100 points. Paid Featured spots are labeled as ads and do not change a business’s score.
Some listed businesses also pay Renovexus’s team for marketing. They are ranked by the same public score, but when a homeowner asks to be matched, such a business gets the request first if one serves the town, according to the site, and the request form names the business before anything is sent.
The officials quoted were not speaking about Renovexus.
