Elisabeth Kübler-Ross Foundation Marks Centennial With Partnership Advancing Compassionate Grief Care

Marking 100 years since her birth, the EKR Foundation partners with INELDA to bring Elisabeth Kübler-Ross’s pioneering teachings to a new generation.

Partnering with INELDA places my mother’s teachings in the hands of those who show up for the dying and their families every day. That is exactly where she would want them.”

— Ken Ross, founder and president, Elisabeth Kübler-Ross Foundation

SCOTTSDALE, AZ, UNITED STATES, October 15, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — A century after Dr. Elisabeth Kübler-Ross’s birth, the teachings of the pioneering psychiatrist and hospice advocate continue to shape how people navigate death, grief and compassionate care. As part of the EKR 100 centennial commemoration, the Elisabeth Kübler-Ross Foundation, led by her son and president, Ken Ross, has partnered with the International End-of-Life Doula Association (INELDA) to advance compassionate grief education and end-of-life care.

The collaboration introduces “When Grief Is Present,” a 15-hour online educational program that combines Kübler-Ross’s teachings with the INELDA Doula Approach™ to strengthen compassionate grief support among caregivers, health care professionals and end-of-life doulas.

Kübler-Ross’s landmark 1969 book, “On Death and Dying,” challenged prevailing medical and societal attitudes toward mortality by bringing the voices of dying patients into public consciousness. Her work emphasized dignity, compassion and the importance of listening without judgment.

For Ken Ross, who founded the Elisabeth Kübler-Ross Foundation in 2005, the centennial carries personal significance and reinforces his commitment to sharing his mother’s teachings with future generations. That legacy extends worldwide, with Kübler-Ross’s books now published in 44 languages.

“To have witnessed my mother’s work grow and serve the public for over sixty years is something I never take for granted. Her message is universal. Grief, dying, and love don’t belong to any one country or culture,” said Ken Ross, founder and president of the Elisabeth Kübler-Ross Foundation. “Partnering with INELDA places her teachings in the hands of those who show up for the dying and their families every day. That is exactly where she would want them.”

Co-created by the EKR Foundation and INELDA, “When Grief Is Present” challenges the idea that grief follows a prescribed path or requires a predetermined resolution. Instead, it recognizes grief as a deeply human response to love, loss and change.

Through six live, educator-led online sessions totaling 15 hours, participants explore the physical, emotional, cognitive and spiritual dimensions of grief. The curriculum combines experiential learning, reflection and practical approaches to compassionate accompaniment, including support for individuals and families navigating anticipatory grief and bereavement.

Open to end-of-life doulas, hospice and palliative care professionals, counselors, chaplains, health care providers, caregivers and the public, the program requires no previous professional training.

As the foundation marks EKR 100, the partnership reinforces Kübler-Ross’s enduring commitment to compassionate, inclusive care that honors the dignity and individual experiences of people facing death and grief.

“When Grief Is Present” runs Jan. 20 through Feb. 8, 2027, with live online sessions Mondays and Wednesdays from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Eastern. Base tuition is $495.

INELDA will also offer its first in-person European end-of-life doula training in Zurich, Switzerland, Kübler-Ross’s birthplace, in March 2027. Additional details will be announced.
